| I bought this laptop as a replacement for one that was getting older and wasn't going to meet the demands of med school tasks. Touchscreen capability was on the top of the list of priorities for my purchase. Hands down, this is the best TS capable computer for the price, especially considering all of the features. I know Dell has the LatitudeXT, but you do not get nearly the same core features for the price. (Dell = Smaller HD, only 1-2 GB RAM)
The processor definitely completes all of the tasks I can throw at it, and extremly fast as well, due to the 4GB of RAM. It is an AMD, so it definitey runs hotter, but I have had no failures and it seems HP has finally figured out how to control their cooling fans better to prevent failure. For those wanting a beautiful HD screen to look at, this comp isn't the top choice. The screen has a bit of an artifact that can be distracting, but only at certain times when certain images are on the screen. However, if you are reading this, you probably are more interested in the TS, which works beautifully. Writing recognition starts off good and goes to great as the software learns, especially if you take the time to run through the training module. The tablet/TS combination will undoubtedly help complete the tasks I have in mind for it. One of the nicest parts about the TS is never needing a mouse, but still having MUCH MUCH better control/speed/ease of use than with the touchpad. Does come with some bloatware, but I removed that quickly during the initial setup and don't have to worry about it anymore. Vista is Vista...so we all know what goes on there, but I am excited to see what Win7 has in store for the multi-touch capabilities of this PC. Overall, I couldn't be happier with the purchase. |

| Received the computer three weeks ago and have been using it extensively since. I am very impressed with its performance and the tablet PC concept. It is not much different than writing on paper, which is much less intrusive than typing in a classroom or in a meeting. The use of OneNote and the tablet PC as organizational tools make it worth the price alone. The only problems I've had is that the keyboard froze once (battery pull and restart solved the problem), and the screen rotation is a little strange. The buttons on the side of the screen to rotate them are irritating and poorly placed, and you can't reconfigure them (at least it does nothing when I try). When you rotate the screen around, its orientation that it will end up with is hard to predict, but quickly overcome. I couldn't believe what you can purchase this computer for (not necessarily here), and what you get. The only other problem (and they are all minor compared to the feature set) was the amount of crapware that HP insists on loading on their computers. Overall a great computer. |

| I love this computer. It's a full-strength computer, not a netbook, but it's fairly small, which is just what I was looking for.
The touchscreen is way more convenient and fun than I anticipated. It's not perfect -- some spots you want to click are just too small for fingers. It does come with a stylus; if you use that, "too small" isn't a problem. Everything just worked when it arrived. I had to look in the manual or help files to operate a couple things (touch controls and fingerprint scanner), but that was just because they were new to me. It doesn't run overly hot. The keyboard is a nice size. Software runs great. It does have some bloatware, but all three of the computers my family has bought this year did. I turned off several load-on-boot items, and uninstalled some other stuff, and that was that. The screen does have a kind of ground-glass quality, sort of like some camera viewfinders, although I didn't really notice it until I saw it mentioned here. The apparent texture in the screen is small, and personally I'm hard-pressed to understand what the problem is, unless you particularly want a glossy screen. It isn't slender and it is just a 2.2GHz processor, so it's not the latest and greatest. It is a great deal for a touchscreen/tablet computer that's not too large but not tiny. |
